Women Community Conversation

Women of Bloomfield’s Town Council and Bloomfield Commision on Civil Rights to Host Community Meeting on the Impact of COVID-19 and Women’s Work

The meeting will take place via Zoom on Wednesday, March 31 at 7:30pm

BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- The women of Bloomfield’s Town Council and the Bloomfield Commision on Civil Rights will host a community meeting about how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted working women and their work. The meeting will be held on Zoom on Wednesday, March 31 at 7:30pm.

The conversation will focus on both personal and professional experiences over the last year as well as offer participants inspiration, advice and recommendations for the future.

“While the COVID-19 pandemic has massively disrupted all of our lives, women, who play fundamental roles in both the workplace and in families, have borne the brunt especially so,” said Councilwoman Jenny Mundell. “I encourage all

residents to join us for this discussion that will include some outstanding professional women as we discuss the challenges that have been amplified by the pandemic and

how we can work together personally and through policy to overcome them in 2021 and beyond.”

“Over the last year, many women have had to juggle the responsibilities of taking care of a family, navigating virtual learning with their children, and/or caring for elderly relatives, all while balancing those responsibilities with their careers,” said Councilwoman Dr. Wartyna Davis. “Unfortunately, disproportionately women have been forced to drop out of the workforce as a result of this crisis,  and when one factors in race and socioeconomics, the impact on women of color is especially problematic.”

The meeting will include a panel discussion between Bloomfield residents and other working professionals. Guests for the meeting will include Dr. Natascia Boeri, Assistant Professor, Sociology, Bloomfield College, Sheana Ditri, Mental Health Professional and Assistant Director, Employee Assistance Program, RWJBarnabas Health, Dr. Diane Hill, Assistant Chancellor, University-Community Partnerships, Rutgers University Newark, Natalie Lupani, Vice President, Benenson Strategy Group and Marieangelic Martinez, CEO, Martinez Martial Arts (Bloomfield, Belleville, and Newark) and Bloomfield's Best Kids.

“As we begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel of this public health emergency, it is important to discuss the unique challenges that women have gone through this year and how we can better position ourselves as we get past this,” said Councilwoman Sarah Cruz. “We will have a phenomenal panel with us on the 31st and I hope to see many residents there.”

The meeting will be moderated by Councilwoman Jenny Mundell and Bloomfield Commision on Civil Rights Commissioner Paula Gutierrez. To join the meeting, go to https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84360048261?pwd=TVhpcndzTEI2bzBJN1FGSmU2RTBOdz09
