Bloomfield Celebrates Ribbon Cutting for Renovated Pitt Street Parking Lot with New Sustainable Features

BLOOMFIELD, NJ – September 15, 2025-  The Township of Bloomfield proudly hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Saturday, September 13th, to unveil the newly renovated Pitt Street Parking Lot in the North Center district. The long-anticipated improvements reflect the Township’s ongoing investment in sustainable infrastructure and its support for thriving, accessible neighborhoods.

The upgraded lot features modernized stormwater drainage including an eco-friendly rain garden, bike racks, solar-powered mobile pay stations, and a traffic-calming design. Solar-powered lighting will soon be installed as well, completing this forward-thinking addition to Bloomfield’s public amenities. These enhancements are part of the Township’s broader efforts to create smarter, greener public spaces that support both environmental goals and local economic vitality.

“Investing in infrastructure like the Pitt Street Parking Lot isn’t just about parking—it's about improving quality of life, supporting small businesses, and preparing for a more sustainable future,” said Mayor Jenny Mundell. “This lot provides cleaner stormwater management, energy-efficient lighting, and better multimodal access for our residents and visitors.”

Located in Bloomfield’s First Ward, the Pitt Street Parking Lot serves as a crucial link to the thriving North Center business corridor. During the ribbon cutting, several neighborhood businesses joined the celebration by offering tables with refreshments, giveaways, and community engagement activities. Participating sponsors included Bloomfield Best Bagels, Iris Yoga, Emerald Tea Supply Co., Colias Cafe, Pandan Asian Cuisine, Gigi’s Princess Palace, First Class Tuxedo, Town Pub, and Hawley Real Estate.

The event was also attended by Township Council Members, leadership from the administration, Engineering, Department of Public Works & Park Maintenance, Police, and Fire Departments, whose collaboration was instrumental in bringing the project to completion.

“This project reflects our community’s priorities: smart design, environmental responsibility, and a deep commitment to our local economy,” said First Ward Councilmember Rosalee Gonzalez. “It’s exciting to see this space transformed in a way that supports the small businesses that make the First Ward such a unique and welcoming place.”

The Pitt Street renovation is part of a larger, multi-year initiative by the Township to improve access to public parking throughout Bloomfield, including the recent reopening of the Royal Municipal Garage in Bloomfield Center. With the addition of Pitt Street, residents and visitors now have expanded and more sustainable parking options within walking distance of some of Bloomfield’s most popular shops, eateries, and wellness centers.
