[ARCHIVED] Bloomfield Allowing Residents to Park in all School Lots Effective Immediately

Important Notice Sign

BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venezia has announced

today that township residents may now park in all Bloomfield Public Schools parking lots until the state of emergency is lifted and schools reopen. Many residents are required to stay home making on street parking very difficult and available space hard to find.

“I started noticing throughout the township, there were fewer and fewer parking spaces available,” said Mayor Michael Venezia. “My fellow Council members and residents have also brought this matter to my attention and working with the Board of Education, we found what should work. The current state of emergency is difficult enough without having to worry about parking. Since the schools are closed for now, their lots are available.”

“Opening up our elementary, middle and high school lots in addition to not enforcing

alternate side parking or parking meters should bring much needed parking relief to Bloomfield,” said Councilwoman Jenny Mundell.

Bloomfield Police will maintain periodic patrols throughout the day and night to ensure these lots remain safe. Bloomfield Public Works will also ensure that the lots remain orderly and clean.

“After speaking with the Mayor, I believe it is a great idea to utilize our empty school lots so that Bloomfield residents have ample places to park while schools are closed,”

said Board of Education President Jill Fischman. “Working together, we should be doing all that we can to relieve the stress that this emergency has put on all of us. I applaud the Mayor for taking this initiative and I am thrilled that we could help out this way.”

Parking in the school lots will be provided to Bloomfield residents while the state of emergency is in effect and schools are closed.
