BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- Bloomfield Mayor Michael Venezia is urging residents to shelter in place in order to stop the spread of the Covid-19/Coronavirus. Residents are advised not to leave their homes unless they have to do essential tasks such as grocery shopping or going to work if they are unable to work from home. Outdoor activities such as running, walking and biking are not impacted by the shelter in place policy as long as residents practice social distancing by keeping a safe distance from others.
“Today I am calling on all residents to shelter in place so that we can stop the spread of the Coronavirus,” said Mayor Michael Venezia. “If you absolutely must leave your home, you should follow CDC guidelines by regularly washing your hands, avoiding large crowds and staying at least six feet away from other people. Even if you are not showing symptoms it is important that you not go out because you could be putting our most vulnerable populations at risk if you do so.”
The calls to shelter in place come one day after the township declared a state of emergency which allowed Bloomfield the tools necessary to keep residents safe during this crisis.
