[ARCHIVED] Bloomfield Firefighters Respond to Early Morning House Fire on Woodland Road

Breaking News

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - April 22, 2025 - In the early hours of April 22, 2025, at approximately 12:47 AM, Bloomfield Fire Department, with support from Nutley and Belleville fire departments, responded to a house fire at 102 Woodland Road.

Fire crews arrived within minutes, at 12:50 AM, and discovered that a fire, which started on the home’s back deck, had spread inside the single-family house. Firefighters worked quickly, deploying three hose lines to stop the flames and prevent further damage. The fire was fully under control by 1:45AM. The house was severely damaged, and the residents have been displaced.

Two residents sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Clara Maass Medical Center. One Bloomfield firefighter also sustained injuries and was transported for evaluation and care.

While Bloomfield crews were working at the scene, fire departments from East Orange, Montclair, and Clifton provided mutual aid house coverage, standing by to assist for other emergencies in town.

“Our firefighters responded quickly and worked tirelessly to contain this fire and prevent an even greater tragedy,” said Bloomfield Fire Department Chief Lou Venezia. “We are keeping the injured residents in our thoughts and wishing them a full and speedy recovery. I’m proud of the bravery shown by our team and deeply thankful to our mutual aid partners at the Nutley and Belleville fire departments for their vital support and teamwork.”

“I’d like to thank the Bloomfield Fire Department for their swift and courageous response during this dangerous incident. My heart goes out to the family affected by the fire, especially those who were injured, I’m relieved to hear they’re receiving the care they need and hopeful for their full recovery. Our department of Human Services is stepping in to assist them, and I encourage our community to do what it does best to come together to support, whether through Fairview School’s collection or via donation to Neighbor to Neighbor Network.” said Bloomfield Mayor Jenny Mundell.
