Mission Statement:

The Bloomfield Environmental Commission provides assistance and vision to the Planning and Zoning Boards, Township Council, and Township agencies by advising on actions and policies of sustainability. In addition, the Commission will collaborate with businesses, residents, and neighboring communities on environmental issues of regional importance.  The Commission strives to foster a sustainable community that meets the needs of the present without compromising the needs of the future through the effective and efficient use of natural ecosystems, social systems, and financial resources.

Objectives:

The Environmental Commission studies and makes recommendations to the Township Council, boards, and agencies on issues that affect the natural and built environment, including open space preservation, smart growth, wetlands and water resource protection, green infrastructure, recycling and litter, environmental cleanups, wildlife habitat, energy efficiency, conservation, and transportation.  The Commission will actively:

●    Review and comment on development proposals, Township ordinances, and State mandates.

●    Identify important environmental goals for the Township.

●    Support education of the public and the local government regarding environmental issues and pertinent regulations.

●    Encourage development to include maintenance and conservation of green space, open space and wetlands throughout the township.

Township of Bloomfield ERI Storymap

The Township of Bloomfield’s 2023 Environmental Resource Inventory (ERI) was made possible in part by a Sustainable Jersey Grant funded by the PSEG Foundation. Utilizing information from the ERI, the Bloomfield Environmental Commission created an online Storymap that compiles the Township ERI’s data and maps to show what is currently known about the township's natural resources and land use.

This map provides a compilation of environmental basemaps, referenced in the Township of Bloomfield’s ERI, as interactive layers enabling map viewers to turn on and off each dataset, zoom in and out to different neighborhoods, share select views, and download reference maps as PDFs.
