Communicable Disease Program

The Communicable Disease Team investigates all those with communicable/reportable diseases. Healthcare providers and laboratories are legally required to report a person with a positive result to any communicable/reportable listed by the local health department where the person resides. The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) guides public health nurses regarding specific treatment to the patient's contacts.

Residents in New Jersey are followed by the Communicable Disease Registry Surveillance System (CDRSS), a confidential, secure reporting program. NJDOH provides public health nurses with training on its use.
