Bloomfield Public Library Now Offers Homebound Delivery for Seniors

BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- Senior Citizens and those who have trouble leaving their homes will now be able to have library resources delivered to them, free of charge, through Homebound Delivery, a new service provided through a partnership with the Bloomfield Public Library and the Bloomfield Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs.

The Bloomfield Public Library and the Bloomfield Department of Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs are partnering to provide home delivery of Library materials to homebound Bloomfield residents with visual or physical disabilities, those suffering from chronic illness, those with loss of mobility due to aging, those with a short-term loss of mobility due to illness or surgery.

“This Homebound Delivery program is another exciting example of how our township ensures access to resources and reflects the commitment of the Library and Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Affairs to providing all residents with services that can enrich their lives,” said Councilwoman Jenny Mundell, Council Representative to Board of Trustees of the Bloomfield Public Library. “I salute the Bloomfield Public Library and Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs for creating this outstanding new program, and I encourage Senior Citizens and residents with restricted mobility to take advantage.”

“Many senior citizens, who have enjoyed the print and multi-media collections that our staff carefully selects, find it difficult to leave their homes to get these materials from our library, so the aim of this initiative is to enrich these people’s lives by delivering it to them,” said Library Director Holly Belli.

“Unfortunately, many seniors in our community do not have access to their own form of transportation, making it difficult for them to visit the Bloomfield Public Library,”  said Director of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Michael Sceurman. “This partnership expands the offerings of our Dial A Ride Service and allows the township to make weekly deliveries to our homebound residents. We are proud to join forces with the library and offer additional educational opportunities to our residents.”

Delivery will begin on March 13 and will take place weekly on Wednesdays. Patrons must fill out a brief application indicating whether they require either temporary (as in the case of an injury) or ongoing service and what sort of materials they prefer and the library will provide a selection of books and materials accordingly. The application and instructions may be downloaded from the library's website at www.bplnj.org. All applications must be signed by the applicant (or their caregiver, if necessary.) For more information, please call the library at 973-566-6200 and ask for Jessica.
