Dear Bloomfield Parents and Students,
Welcome to the new school year. I am excited for all of our students to continue their education in Bloomfield, which boasts some of the best teachers and the best graduation rates in Essex County.
As a fellow parent, I understand that it's natural to worry about your kids when they go off to school. Parents and guardians: please pay close attention to attendance: Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day.Studies show that students should miss no more than 9 days of school each year to stay engaged, successful and on track to graduation. Absences can be a sign that a student is losing interest in school, struggling with school work, dealing with a bully or facing some other potentially serious difficulty.
To prepare for not only attending, but thriving in school, please make sure your children have a proper breakfast and packed lunch, or are registered with their schools if they qualify for school breakfast and/or lunch. Also, help them finish school and encourage them to get a good night’s sleep.
Students: on behalf of your teachers, my Council colleagues, the Board of Education, and your neighbors, we want you to have a great time in school, while learning the schools necessary to succeed in and out of the class room. Good luck, enjoy the year, and reach out to your teachers or my office if there is anything we can do to help you!
Sincerely,
Michael Venezia
Mayor of Bloomfield
