[ARCHIVED] New Street Signs Purchased for Downtown Bloomfield

New Street Signs

BLOOMFIELD, NJ -- 720 new street signs will be installed in Downtown Bloomfield over the next month. The signs will go up from the South end of town to Bay Ave. The vendor, Dan Swayze and Sons, Inc., of Scotch Plains, printed and will install these signs as the first half of the Township of Bloomfield’s sign restoration.

The majority of the signs will be red, with special brown signs placed on streets occupied by Bloomfield College and other streets designated as the historical district. 27 Bloomfield College signs will have polls, signs and sign toppers. Streets named in honor of past residents, or with designated Veterans signs will remain above the new signs. The ground under all newly planted signs and polls will be smoothed out and leveled.

“Most of the current street signs in town are 20 or more years old, and we were presented with an opportunity to upgrade approximately half the signs in town at a great price,” said Mayor Michael Venezia. “With the restoration of our Stay Strong and Welcome to Bloomfield murals, this new sign initiative complements the township’s all around restoration. Having all signs outside of the historical district be the same color only solidifies the unity we feel here in Bloomfield, and such a cosmetic touch-up can have a broad, positive effect in town.”

“I am thrilled with the design and quick rollout of these new street signs,“ said 3rd Ward Councilwoman Sarah Cruz. “Old signs and posts in town often vary in size and color from block to block, or have faded, making them hard to read. These new signs are continuous in appearance, aside from the historical district, and are legible at all hours of the day and night. I am pleased to bring these aesthetic improvements to the South End.”

Public bids for printing and installation services for signs in the North End are expected to be open in the Springtime.
