Bloomfield Community Garden
Bloomfield Community Gardens are administered by the Bloomfield Township Community Garden Committee
Meetings: are held monthly on the last Thursday of every month at 7:30 pm in the Law Enforcement Building, 2nd Floor, Mayor’s Conference Room.
Mission Statement:
The Bloomfield Community Garden Committee’s mission is to prolong an invested interest in maintaining and enhancing Bloomfield’s community garden spaces, organizing and promoting various community garden activities and projects, and fostering a community garden spirit that celebrates recreational organic gardening. The Committee encourages gardening in the township, healthy living, positive eating habits, and environmental stewardship.
Objectives:
The Bloomfield Community Garden Committee serves in an advisory capacity to the Township Council of the Township of Bloomfield, making recommendations to the Council of areas in which to open additional Community gardens. It also actively:
- Provides gardening resources to township residents
- Review and conduct votes on garden tools and materials purchase proposals
- Identifies important community gardening goals for the township
- Establishes community garden rules and regulations
- Manages Community Garden membership tracks all plot assignments, and maintains a waiting list for plots
- Practices organic growing methods and prohibits the use of non-organic fungicides, herbicides, or fertilizers in community garden spaces
- Constructs and ensures the proper maintenance and appearance of the gardens
- Promotes and educates residents on the benefits of gardening and community gardening
- Promotes composting and manages compost sites in community gardens
- Conducts garden-related activities and workshops
- Harvest and deliver community garden vegetables to the local food pantry in coordination with the Neighbor to Neighbor Network
